Guidelines for Stability Factor and Twist Rate:

Choose a bullet length best suited to your rifle twist and type of hunting.

Note that S/F increases as twist tightens.  A 1:10" twist is tighter than a 1:12" twist.

Close range dangerous game hunting

A stability factor (s/f) greater than 2.0 is required. A s/f of 2.5 is desirable for faster calibers. With FN bullets there is no upper limit to the s/f. If this bullet does not meet the requirement, use a shorter bullet.

On the chart to the right:

1. Select the twist rate of your rifle on the horizontal axis and read the S/F on the vertical axis.

2. Use the guidelines above to determine suitability for your application.

3. Check the caliber list for your caliber.
