Dr. Alf Smith* discussing GS Custom Bullets.

"I really cannot fault the heavy ( slow) bullet approach in the 9.3, after all it has withstood the test of time..... however I would also not go against GS Custom in their approach as their bullets really work well.

In fact, I would venture to state that GS Custom pushes the traditional limitations of the 9.3 Mauser to a place it has never been and, come to think of it, I don't mind it at all. Now you can make longer shots with the 9.3 and, heaven forbid, may actually allow it to be used as a Sheep gun across a canyon. Not to mention the 9.3 Brenneke or bigger. The GS Custom actually makes a huge amount of sense!

Imagine having a flat shooting 9.3 Mauser fast enough to reach out to a far off sheep but with enough punch to keep a belligerent Grizzly in its place !"

"Now as to the reason the 265gr .375 HV works so well, is the design. As with all monometal expanders, they have managed to harness and control the shedding of energy. It is captured and limited by virtue of the bullet's unique construction.

So you have controlled expansion and limited fragmentation.

Now you add a second dimension: You limit the weight of the bullet and add the driving bands and you have a perfect combination. You can drive velocity because pressure is brought down by the driving bands.

In fact, GSC bullets can be shot at higher velocities than their conventional counterparts, enough velocity so that the bullet sheds its petals along the way, leaving you with a cylinder of sufficient remaining mass and energy, to still penetrate adequately.

This is modern ballistics science harnessed in an ingenious manner. In fact I would venture to state that it is revolutionary! It does not rewrite the rules, but it is an alternative, never thought of application of existing rules!

What is more, the cylinder that is left, due to it's geometric shape, is the most stable configuration there is. It is the ideal scenario for large bodied game."
-------------------------------------------------------------------
"Overall I believe the GS custom to be a more precisely constructed bullet thus potentially capable of better in flight performance."

*Dr. Smith is an orthopaedic surgeon of considerable experience. He resides in Canada and has family in South Africa where the family game farm is located. He is a ballistic researcher of note and a highly experienced hunter and collector of firearms. He has hunted a wide variety of game on several continents and has extensive field experience in the hunting of game animals, from the smallest of antelope to the largest of dangerous game.
