Gina and Jani Schultz' Springbuck Hunt 1997

Blesbuck Hunt 1998

Jani with a springbuck taken up in the Swaershoek mountains near Cradock. The rifle is Gina Schultz's Mauser 220 Swift with double set trigger. The shot was taken off a bipod at about 330 meters with gusting wind from left to right and in light drizzle. The bullet was a GS Custom 40 grain HV at 4400 fps and entered behind the left shoulder, exiting behind the right shoulder. Total meat loss was confined to a 4cm circle around each hole.

Below are Gina on the left and Jani on the right with their first blesbuck taken at Kareebosch. Gina took her blesbuck with the Swift at 250 meters off the bipod. The blesbuck was standing facing her. The 40 grain HV entered centre on the chest, went the full length and exited on the first vertebra of the tail with no meat damage. Jani took hers with dad Gerard's 7X57. It was an awkward steep downhill shot at about 80 metres and she pulled it plumb centre through the shoulders. The bullet was a GS Custom HV 130 grain at 3000 fps. See the low level of meat damage.

Gerard with a blesbuck also taken at Kareebosch. The buck was facing away and looking around at about 120 metres. A head or neck shot would have been risky as the herd was skittish. When it was clear behind the ram, Gerard put the shot in on the last rib on the left side and it exited on the left through the front of the chest. The rifle is an old Midland 7x57 with a Weaver 6x40 scope.
